Foods that destroy your knees: What should you never eat with arthrosis?

Knee health depends on many factors – genetics, physical activity, body weight, but one of the most important, and often neglected, factors is nutrition. Although many look to medications, injections and surgeries as a solution, they forget that daily eating habits can be a major cause of knee arthrosis, inflammation, swelling and chronic pain.

In this article, we will discover what are the most harmful foods for your joints – especially your knees – and how you can save yourself from pain, inflammation and surgery with simple changes in your diet.


1. Sugar – the silent enemy of your cartilage

Without competition, sugar is enemy number one when it comes to joint health. This “sweet” substance provokes chronic inflammation in the body and especially in the joints. Sugar consumption stimulates the secretion of cytokines, inflammatory molecules that literally “bite” the cartilage of the knee.

🔴 The problem is even bigger because sugar is not only in cakes and desserts – it is hidden in more than 70% of processed foods:

  • Ready-made soups
  • Ketchup, mustard
  • Bread
  • Industrial Sauces
  • Flavored yogurts
  • Energy Bars

Even when you think you don’t eat sweet – you eat it!

What to do?
Completely eliminate refined white sugar and any products that contain it. Instead, use stevia, erythritol, or honey (in moderation).


2. Salt – a dangerous ally in processed foods

Although our body needs salt, excessive consumption of table salt leads to water retention in the body, increases pressure on the joints and promotes swelling, especially in people with arthrosis.

🔴 The problem is that most of the salt does not come from your salt shaker, but from:

  • Ready meals
  • Cured meat products
  • Bakery products
  • Instant Soup
  • Snacks

Solution?
Use unrefined sea or Himalayan salt, in an amount of no more than 3 grams per day. Cook at home, without store-bought processed meals!


3. White flour and refined carbohydrates – enemy number three

White flour products – bread, pastries, pizzas, pasta – are quickly processed into sugar, so in addition to creating a glycemic surge, they also cause inflammation of cartilage tissue.

Their consumption is directly associated with an increased risk of osteoarthritis of the knee.

What to eat instead?
Select:

  • Whole wheat flour (rye, spelt, buckwheat)
  • Oatmeal
  • Sweet potato
  • Lentils, chickpeas and quinoa

4. Alcohol – poison for joints

A glass of wine is sometimes not a problem, but regular alcohol consumption provokes :

  • Dehydration of the joints
  • Increase in inflammatory markers
  • Weaker metabolism of toxins
  • Loss of minerals important for bone health

Alcohol also destroys the liver, and without a healthy liver, there are no healthy joints!

Recommendation:
Completely eliminate alcohol during the treatment of arthrosis and with any knee problems.


5. Processed meat – a dangerous source of chemicals

Sausages, pâtés, salami, hot dogs and cured meats are full of:

  • Growth Hormone
  • Antibiotics
  • Nitrite
  • Preservatives and flavor enhancers

All this creates inflammatory processes in the body, and the joints are the first to suffer.

Solution:
Consume exclusively organic meat (if you can get it), and even better: rely more on plant-based sources of protein such as legumes and nuts.


6. Hydrogenated oils and trans fats – hidden cartilage killers

These fats are found in:

  • Margarine
  • Fried foods (french fries, croquettes)
  • Bakery products
  • Biscuits and industrial cakes

Trans fats exacerbate inflammation and prevent the regeneration of cartilage tissue.

Replacement?
Cook in cold-pressed coconut oil, olive oil, or ghee butter.
