What causes hair loss and how to stop it naturally?

Hair loss is one of the most common aesthetic and health problems today. Although it is often seen as a normal part of aging, hair loss can be the result of a number of internal imbalances – from hormonal changes, chronic stress, to a lack of key vitamins and minerals. 🔍 What are the most common causes of hair loss?

Experts identify five main causes of hair loss, some of which are reversible, while others are hereditary. Understanding these causes is the first step towards the right treatment.

1. Genetic predisposition (androgenic alopecia)

The most common cause of baldness, especially in men. In women, it occurs as thinning hair on the scalp. Unfortunately, we cannot significantly influence the genetic factor, but we can slow down the process with proper care and natural preparations.

2. Hormonal changes

This is especially important for women. Pregnancy, menopause, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid problems, and the use of birth control pills can disrupt hormonal balance and cause hair loss.

3. Medications

A number of medications can have side effects that include thinning or hair loss – such as chemotherapy, antidepressants, blood pressure medications, or cholesterol medications. If you notice hair loss after the introduction of a new therapy, consult a specialist.

4. Autoimmune diseases (alopecia areata)

It is a condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks the hair follicles, resulting in the appearance of round bald areas on the scalp. This condition often has a psychological impact and requires an individualized approach.

5. Poor diet and nutrient deficiencies

Lack of iron, zinc, protein and B complex vitamins, especially biotin, causes brittleness, weakening and hair loss. Without proper nutrition, the follicles are left without the “building material” to produce new hairs.


🧬 DHT and Hair Loss in Men

In most men, the main cause of hair loss is hypersensitivity to the hormone DHT (5α-dihydrotestosterone). This derivative of testosterone shortens the life cycle of the hair follicle, makes it thinner and eventually causes it to fall out. Already By the age of 35, as many as 60% of men begins to notice thinning hair, and by the age of 50, this percentage rises to as much as 85%.


💊 Biotin (vitamin B7) – the king of hair health

Biotin, also known as vitamin H, comes from the German words “Haar” (hair) and “Haut” (skin). It belongs to the group of B complex vitamins and is crucial for the synthesis of keratin, a protein that builds hair, nails and skin.

The main functions of biotin:

  • Stimulates the production of keratin and collagen
  • Participates in the formation of essential fatty acids
  • Helps metabolize proteins, fats, and carbohydrates
  • Improves the functioning of the nervous system and skin
  • Maintains the function of the digestive and cardiovascular systems

Biotin deficiency results in:

  • hair loss,
  • weakening of nails,
  • skin problems (redness, rashes),
  • fatigue and poor concentration.

🥦 Foods rich in vitamin B7 (biotin)

If you want to restore your hair naturally, start eating more of these foods:

  • 🥚 Egg yolks
  • 🫘 Beans, peas, lentils, chickpeas
  • 🥜 Peanuts, almonds, sunflower seeds
  • 🍠 Sweet potato, mushrooms, spinach, broccoli
  • 🍌 Bananas, avocados
  • 🐟 Salmon, tuna
  • 🍖 Liver
  • 🧂 Nutritional yeast

🧃 When is a dietary supplement needed?

If you cannot get the necessary amounts of biotin through your diet every day – especially with chronic stress, illness or aging – it is recommended to take dietary supplements.

It is ideal to use:

  • complex of B vitamins (especially B7),
  • natural products from proven manufacturers,
