Marigold (Calendula officinalis) is a plant of the genus Calendula, in the family Asteraceae. The plant grows naturally in Western Europe, Southeast Asia and the Mediterranean. It is a common plant in home gardens all over the world . Marigold is a plant that radiates beauty and a strong yellow-orange color reminiscent of the sun. It blooms from June to September, until the first frosts.

If the winter is mild, marigolds can be the last plant to bloom in the garden and also the first to bloom in spring. Bright yellow to deep orange flowers give off a slight honey aroma and are edible, with little spice and bitterness on the palate. Petals are often used in salads or as a dying addition to dishes.

Today, this plant is used to make teas, oils, tinctures, ointments… Calendula contains both lutein and beta-carotene, which are absorbed by the body and converted into vitamin A. It also has fatty acids, with the two dominant fatty acids being calendula and linoleic acids. This plant is used medicinally for at least 12. centuries. The Romans originally called it calendula, who realized that the plant blooms on the first day of each month (telenda). It was a symbol of good luck in Roman gardens, and also provided a continuous supply of flowers and delicate leaves – so it was regularly used for cooking and medicine.
