Skin Vitamins: Natural Help For Psoriasis, Eczema And Dermatitis

Psoriasis, eczema and other forms of dermatitis are often associated with chronic inflammatory processes in the body. Although medicine offers a variety of treatment approaches, natural vitamins and a healthy diet can play a key role in relieving symptoms and improving skin conditions. Below, we reveal how vitamins A, D and E and flaxseed oil work, which have been proven to be useful in various skin diseases.

Psoriasis – what is it and why does it occur?

Psoriasis is a chronic, autoimmune disease that causes accelerated growth of skin cells. These cells do not have time to mature and peel off naturally, leading to the formation of dry, thickened, red skin covered with silvery scales. It most commonly occurs on the elbows, knees, scalp, and torso, but can affect any part of the body.

The cause of psoriasis is not fully understood, but it is known that there is a strong genetic component, as well as external triggers such as:

  • emotional stress,
  • cold weather,
  • poor diet (e.g. industrially processed foods, sugar, alcohol),
  • Smoking
  • certain medications (e.g. beta-blockers, lithium, antimalarials).

The most important vitamins for the skin

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is essential for skin health because it participates in the process of cell renewal. Its antioxidant properties help reduce inflammation and protect cells from damage. Vitamin A deficiency can cause skin dryness, infections, and reduced ability to regenerate.

Natural sources of vitamin A:

  • Beef and lamb liver
  • Fatty fish (salmon, tuna)
  • Carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, kale, spinach

Recommended dose: 15,000 to 25,000 IU per day

Vitamin D

Vitamin D regulates the immune system, reduces inflammation and supports skin health. Deficiency of this vitamin is very often noted in people with psoriasis.

Sources of vitamin D:

  • Sunlight (30 to 60 minutes per day)
  • Fatty fish (salmon, sardines, mackerel)
  • Cod liver oil
  • Eggs (especially egg yolk)
  • Fortified drinks (soy, almond, rice milk)
  • Shiitake and maitake mushrooms

If you cannot stay in the sun regularly, it is recommended to take dietary supplements with the advice of a professional.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E acts as a powerful antioxidant. It relieves inflammation, stimulates skin regeneration and improves its elasticity.

Sources of vitamin E:

  • Sunflower oil, olive oil, wheat germ oil
  • Almonds, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds and pumpkin
  • Spinach, kale, broccoli
  • Avocado, red pepper
  • Salmon, tuna

Flaxseed oil – a natural ally against inflammation

Flaxseed oil is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, which have powerful anti-inflammatory properties. It is particularly rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which improves skin hydration and its natural protective function.

Benefits of linseed oil:

  • Reduces inflammatory processes in the body
  • Reduces itching and redness
  • Promotes the restoration of damaged skin

You can use it orally (1-2 tablespoons per day) or topically on the affected areas of the skin.

Tips for living without psoriasis symptoms

  • Healthy eating: Focus on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats and enough protein
  • Regular physical activity: Helps reduce stress and inflammation
  • Stress management: Meditation, yoga, breathing techniques
  • Avoidance of triggers: Smoking, alcohol, cold, irregular sleep
